The Illinois Democracy Amendment
The Illinois Democracy Amendment exists because we believe a few, important foundational things:
- Illinois is in need of ethics reform.
- Everyday people should have the right to require a record roll-call vote on ethics bills, which so far, they haven’t been able to – not in a meaningful way.
- The right to make law, by petition and referendum, is fundamental.
The purpose of the committee is to propose a constitutional amendment to give Illinois voters the power by petition to require the General Assembly to take mandatory roll call votes on bills which propose stronger ethical standards for Illinois public officials.
